Singapore, (Marina Bay Sands, Hall B, Booth #F9), 11 May 2010 : Sony Electronics Asia Pacific, a leader in High Definition (HD) technology, will be participating in Hospital Build Asia 2010 from 11 – 13 May 2010. With over 25 years of medical imaging innovation, Sony will be showing its full range of products and solutions spanning the entire HD surgical spectrum - from image acquisition and display to storage and printing – for an enhanced, integrated and streamlined imaging process in and outside the Operating Room (OR).

Malaysia Healthcare, which promotes Malaysia as a healthcare destination globally, is the Media Partner to Hospital Build Asia taking place in Singapore from 11 – 13 May 2010.

Sony will be showcasing its capabilities in HD, with its booth to be transformed into a simulated OR environment to demonstrate a seamless HD surgical workflow using Sony's state-of-the-art HD solutions in a real-life application environment. A side-by-side comparison between SD and HD surgical video will be shown to demonstrate the ability of HD to produce better patient care and outcomes.

At the HD-in-3D experience corner at the Sony booth, visitors will have the opportunity of participating in an interactive hands-on experience of a simulated surgical procedure in 3D. With a laparoscopic trainer, Sony 24” 3D LCD screen and special 3D glasses, visitors will get to view the ‘mock' surgery being conducted, displayed in exceptional true high-resolution 3D. In addition, visitors will also be able to view an actual 3D surgical video footage on a 42” 3D LCD screen.

“Healthcare practitioners are beginning to discover the full potential of High Definition imaging in surgical practice,” said Mr. Tsuyoshi Nagata, General Manager for Business Communication, Business & Professional Products Asia Pacific Company (BPPA), Sony Electronics Asia Pacific. “More than just a pretty picture, HD's superior image resolution is improving the visualization of minute anatomic and pathologic details, boosting precision of surgery and potentially reducing errors in minimally invasive procedures. HD is in our DNA and our innovations in medical technology are playing a vital role in supporting advances in surgical applications.”

Sony will be launching two new prototype systems for HD video recording and content management solutions for the OR to bolster its existing medical line. To be revealed are the OPSIGATE Content Management and Delivery System and HVO-1000MD HD Video Recorder . Each solution offers healthcare professionals and administrators a comprehensive and user-friendly solution for ingest, storage and access to HD video assets.

With the explosion in the use of digital imagery in the healthcare industry, Sony is responding to the demand for efficient storage and sharing of large data assets with OPSIGATE Content Management and Delivery System. Utilizing a web-based browser interface, it allows authorized users to input, archive and distribute images and videos without having to install any client software. By storing visual records or data in a uniform library and managing the archive with metadata, the OPSIGATE system allows doctors, medical students, or authorized users to instantly browse and download content. The convenience of a simple, secure, web-based administration of multimedia content also means ease of content-sharing across different departments of a multi-disciplinary healthcare institution, as well as allowing secured access to content remotely.

Available in late 2010, The HVO-1000MD HD Video Recorder supports multiple inputs from SD and HD devices and multiple signal formats including 1080P to support any video environment. Featuring real-time streaming function, doctors, nurses, and other medical staff outside the operating theater can view live events captured via endoscopes or cameras, and respond with required actions quickly. Capable of still and video recording, the unit supports simultaneous recording on the internal hard drive and a Blu-ray disc drive.

Visitors will have the opportunity to experience and see first-hand the full range of HD products and solutions Sony has to offer on display. This includes the full range of Sony HD medical-grade monitors, PMW-10MD full HD medical-grade camera which combines outstanding image quality with the convenience of a built-in HD recorder; UP-DF750 digital film imager for high quality mammography imaging and the SNC-RH124 HD IP Camera ideal for OR observation and room monitoring applications.
